Section 1194.21 Software Applications and Operating Systems
Criteria
Supporting Features
Remarks (e.g., definition, equivalent facilitation, scope of support provided)
1194.21(a) When software is designed to run on a system that has a keyboard, product functions shall be executable from a keyboard where the function itself or the result of performing a function can be discerned textually. Product has been developed to meet this standard subject to the remarks on the right.

The product was tested for the ability to perform functions using the keyboard only.

Observations:

  1. Worklist parent items are not keyboard accessible using "group by". The workaround is to see the same data without "group by".
  2. When using the Wiki editor in HTML mode, the following limitations have been observed: i) Font styles cannot be accessed, ii) Font color cannot be changed, iii) Tabbed dialog boxes cannot be accessed. The workaround for the above three limitations -- is to use "Source" mode (alt+0), instead of HTML mode for the editor. When in the Source mode, the user can add the style and color values via markup.
  3. In the Default mode (i.e. Screen Reader OFF), not able to keyboard navigate out of a list using Shift-Tab. Bug 10101825.
  4. Not able to expand/collapse folders in "All Saved Searches" task flow page using the keyboard. Bug 8911639.

1194.21(c) A well-defined on-screen indication of the current focus shall be provided that moves among interactive interface elements as the input focus changes. The focus shall be programmatically exposed so that assistive technology can track focus and focus changes. Product has been developed to meet this standard subject to the remarks on the right.

The product was tested for visual indication of the position of the cursor.

Observations:

  • Using Firefox, a user cannot noticeably navigate Other Settings within the Preferences -> People Connections dialogue panels using the keyboard.
1194.21(d) Sufficient information about a user interface element including the identity, operation and state of the element shall be available to assistive technology. When an image represents a program element, the information conveyed by the image must also be available in text. Product has been developed to meet this standard subject to the remarks on the right.

The product was tested for images (that convey information) to have meaningful alternative text.

1194.21(e) When bitmap images are used to identify controls, status indicators, or other programmatic elements, the meaning assigned to those images shall be consistent throughout an application's performance. Product has been developed to meet this standard subject to the remarks on the right.

The product was tested for images (that convey information) to have meaningful alternative text - with a consistent meaning within an application.

1194.21(f) Textual information shall be provided through operating system functions for displaying text. The minimum information that shall be made available is text content, text input caret location, and text attributes. Product has been developed to meet this standard subject to the remarks on the right. The product was tested to validate that text is supplied through HTML or injected into the browser DOM; the browser is responsible for exposing all such content in a way that is usable by assistive technology on the platform.
