Your Existing Investment Carries Forward

If you are an existing Oracle AVDF customer, the move to Oracle Database Security Central is an extension rather than a replacement. Your audit collection infrastructure, firewall deployments, compliance reports, alert configurations, and data retention policies all carry forward. The capabilities you rely on today are the operational foundation of the new platform.

What Security Central adds is a broader security surface on top of that foundation. You gain the ability to see who holds risky access before it is exploited, to know where sensitive data resides and how consistently it is classified, to detect configuration drift before it creates exposure, and to manage policy fleet-wide instead of target by target.

What Changes in Practice

The most visible changes are in how risk is surfaced and how policies are managed.

The Security Control Center replaces the separate views that Oracle AVDF customers previously navigated, correlating signals that used to require manual analysis across multiple screens. Unified Policy Management replaces per-target policy configuration with a single console from which policies are authored, reviewed, and deployed across the fleet.

The AI Advisor introduces a mode of interaction that has no equivalent in Oracle AVDF, supporting natural language queries and alert policy authoring. User 360, Data 360, and Configuration 360 provide categories of insight that extend well beyond the scope of Database Activity Monitoring.

Upgrade and Migration

Oracle provides a documented out-of-place upgrade path from Oracle AVDF to Oracle Database Security Central. The upgrade preserves the existing deployment while transferring data and configuration to the new environment, which minimizes disruption and reduces operational risk. Because the original Audit Vault Server remains available throughout the process, organizations also have a straightforward recovery path.
