Each application has three arrows, each pointing to one of the two remaining shards, indicating that the data is being sharded and sent to the 3 replication unit leaders, of which two leaders reside in the middle shard, and one leader resides on the right shard. The one remaining follower of those replication units each reside on the shard opposite the leader.
