Managing Global Services
To manage GDS global services across pool databases, you can perform add/modify/start/stop/enable/disable operations and other administrative tasks with GDSCTL.
- Creating a Global Service To create a GDS global service, perform
GDSCTL add service, modify the service for Oracle Real Application Clusters (Oracle RAC) instances, and start the service. - Starting a Global Service To start a GDS global service on eligible pool databases, perform
gdsctl start servicewith role or lag options. - Stopping a Global Service To stop a running GDS global service on pool databases, perform
GDSCTL stop service(optionally-database). - Enabling a Global Service To reenable a disabled global service on a database, perform
GDSCTL enable servicefor the target pool or database. - Disabling a Global Service To prevent a global service from starting or failing over on databases, perform
GDSCTL disable serviceafter stopping it. - Modifying Global Service Attributes To change global service properties or where it runs in a pool, perform
GDSCTL modify service. - Deleting a Global Service To delete a global service from GDS catalog and all databases, perform
stop servicethenremove service. - Adding a Service to a Global Data Services Pool To create a global service on GDS pool databases, perform gdsctl add service then modify service for RAC instances.
- Global Data Services Failover Across Regions Flow To fail over GDS services across regions, perform database switchover, start secondary apps, update/flush DNS, route traffic.
- Graceful Application Switchover Database services are used to manage workloads during the planned outage properly. Services must be properly created, and the application must obtain connections from a service.
