Removing Oracle AI Database Software
About Oracle Deinstallation Options
The deinstall utility, located in each Oracle home’s $ORACLE_HOME/deinstall directory, removes supported Oracle software and its configuration, including Oracle AI Database, Grid Infrastructure, RAC, and Database Client; individual products or components cannot be removed separately. It can generate or use response files, requires the same release as the software being removed, and may require complete configuration details when the installation is not running. Grid Infrastructure removal requires preparatory cleanup, including dismounting ACFS, disabling ADVM, and addressing GNS DNS entries, followed by root scripts such as rootcrs.sh or roothas.sh. When no other homes remain in the central inventory, it may delete Oracle base contents such as administrative, diagnostic, recovery, and database directories, including user data and files outside the Oracle base, so Oracle-managed locations should be reserved exclusively for Oracle software.

Oracle deinstall Command
The deinstall command stops Oracle software and removes software and configuration for a specified Oracle home. Its options support interactive or silent execution, configuration inspection without removal through -checkonly, response-file selection and parameter overrides, custom response, temporary, and log directories, and help output. In multinode environments, -local removes software only from the local node while deconfiguring remote nodes; Grid Infrastructure-specific options can deconfigure local or remote homes without deleting them.

Deinstallation Examples for Oracle Database Client
Run deinstall from the Oracle home’s $ORACLE_HOME/deinstall directory to remove an Oracle Database Client without specifying the home path. Use -checkonly to generate a response file, which the tool stores in a temporary directory and reports in its output, then pass that file’s complete path with -paramfile to perform the deinstallation using the captured configuration.
