This graphic shows six data instances, where the host3.instance1 and host4.instance1 are connected to each other. The remaining data instances are connected to each other. host3.instance1 and host4.instance1 are not connected to the other data instances because of a partitioned network failure. If an application connects to host3.instance1, it can retrieve data from host3.instance1 and host4.instance1, but will not see any data that resides on any other data instances.
