This graphic shows six data instances where the host3.instance1 and host4.instance1 data instances have a connection to each other and the host5.instance1, host6.instance1, host7.instance1, and host8.instance1 have a connection to each other. There is a communication error where host3.instance1 and host4.instance1 do not know about the other data instances. There are also three membership servers. The ms_host1 membership server was used by host3.instance1 and host4.instance1, but with the communication error, the membership server does not know about ms_host2 and ms_host3 membership servers. Since a single membership server is not a majority, it no longer accepts requests from host3.instance1 and host4.instance1.
