Description of the illustration network.eps

This graphic shows the structure of a grid. At the top are the client applications. They interface with the grid through an external network. There are several hosts that have data instances installed on them. The client applications connect to the data instances on these hosts through the external network. Direct-mode applications interface with the grid directly through any of the data instances.

There are two management instances installed on two separate hosts. The instance administrator connects directly to one of the management instances to run commands that manage the grid.

There are three hosts installed with ZooKeeper membership services. Each host acts as a ZooKeeper membership server.

All of the data instances, management instances and ZooKeeper membership servers communicate over an internal network.
