8.2.2.3 Critical Hot Updates for Oracle Linux Kernel and Oracle Database Interim Fixes

Oracle Linux and Oracle Database support applying qualified critical updates while the system continues running.

In addition to Exadata Live Update, Oracle provides some interim fixes that can be applied and activated without restarting the system. This type of hot update is supported for qualified fixes to the following components:

  • Oracle Linux kernel on Exadata database servers and storage servers, using the Ksplice Offline Client.

  • Oracle Database, using OPatch Online Patching.

Hot updates are typically used as a temporary measure when a critical fix must be applied before the next planned software maintenance.
