8.5.9 Updating Individual Packages

Due to security findings or customization, you may need to update individual (general purpose) Linux packages supplied by the Exadata release. You can do this by removing the exadata-sun-computenode-exact rpm first.

Removing this rpm does not impact any functionality, but it removes a “lock”. By removing this “lock”, you are allowed to update specific individual Linux rpms.

If needed, you can remove the exadata-sun-computenode-exact rpm as follows:

[root@dm01 ]# rpm -e exadata-sun-computenode-exact

When updating to a new release, the update utility tries to “restore” the “lock” (exadata-sun-computenode-exact). For example, this is possible if newer packages are shipped in the newer release.

If the exadata-sun-computenode-exact rpm cannot be restored, the update utility falls back to exadata-sun-computenode-minimum.

Note:

Do not force in packages using the rpm -Uvh --nodeps command, unless directed by Oracle Support Services.
