10.2.8 Drop Hard Disk for Replacement

Before replacing a normal hard disk that is not in any failure status, the Oracle Exadata Database Machine administrator must run the ALTER PHYSICALDISK DROP FOR REPLACEMENT command, and confirm its success before removing the hard disk from Oracle Exadata Storage Server. The command checks to ensure that the grid disks on that hard disk can be safely taken offline from Oracle ASM without causing a disk group force dismount. If all the grid disks can be offlined without leading to disk group force dismount, then the command puts the grid disks offline from Oracle ASM, disables the hard disk, and then turns on the service LED on the storage server.

Minimum software: Oracle Exadata System Software release 11.2.3.3
