2.1.4 Flash Cache Size Advisor

Oracle Exadata System Software release 26.2.0 introduces Flash Cache Size Advisor, which analyzes workload I/O activity and provides recommendations for refining Exadata Smart Flash Cache allocations.

Flash Cache Size Advisor uses performance information collected by Automatic Workload Repository (AWR) and analyzed by Automatic Database Diagnostic Monitor (ADDM). By analyzing workloads over time, the advisor can identify flash cache sizing opportunities during normal and peak workload periods and provide recommendations based on observed workload behavior.

For environments that use Exadata I/O Resource Management (IORM) to manage flash cache allocations for individual databases, the advisor can recommend targeted allocation increases for specific databases. For environments that do not limit flash cache resources for individual databases, the advisor can recommend increasing overall flash cache capacity by adding storage servers when necessary.

Subsequent AWR and ADDM analysis may be used to evaluate the impact of the changes, helping administrators align Flash Cache capacity with changing workload requirements to maintain I/O performance and efficient Flash Cache utilization.

Flash Cache Size Advisor works in conjunction with Oracle AI Database version 23.26.4 (October 2026 Release Update) or later.
