8 Hardware Components of the Exadata Storage Expansion Rack
Oracle Exadata Storage Expansion Rack provides additional storage for Oracle Exadata Database Machine.
The additional storage can be used for backups, historical data, and unstructured data. Oracle Exadata Storage Expansion Racks can be used to add space to Oracle Exadata Database Machine as follows:

Add new Oracle Exadata Storage Servers and grid disks to a new Oracle Automatic Storage Management (Oracle ASM) disk group.

Extend existing disk groups by adding grid disks in Oracle Exadata Storage Expansion Rack.

Split Oracle Exadata Storage Expansion Rack among multiple Oracle Exadata Database Machines.
