2.1.10 Ready-to-go System Image for New KVM Guests

Oracle Exadata System Software release 24.1.0 introduces a new highly-optimized base system image for Oracle Linux KVM guests known as the ready-to-go system image.

With the ready-to-go system image, generic configuration work previously conducted during guest creation is included in the image. Consequently, deploying each new KVM guest is significantly faster, especially when creating multiple guests concurrently. Furthermore, using the ready-to-go system image, customers may optionally configure new guests utilizing the UEFI boot framework in Oracle Linux KVM, which also underpins the KVM Guest Secure Boot feature.

On new system deployments using Oracle Exadata System Software release 24.1.0 (or later), all KVM guests use the ready-to-go system image by default. On previously deployed systems, you can use the ready-to-go system image for new KVM guests after you update to Oracle Exadata System Software release 24.1.0 (or later) and then download and install the ready-to-go system image.

By default, the base ready-to-go system image file uses the following file name format: /EXAVMIMAGES/System.first.boot.version.date-stamp.rtg.img. If the base ready-to-go system image is configured to utilize the UEFI boot framework, the file name format is /EXAVMIMAGES/System.first.boot.version.date-stamp.uefi.img.
