7.1.7 Smart Aggregation

SUM and GROUP BY SQL operations are now smart scan enabled with in-memory columnar format. This feature benefits SQL statements with a low degree of parallelism, such as the following example:

SELECT dept, sum(sal) FROM emp
WHERE country=‘USA’ GROUP BY dept;

Performance benefits of this feature include:

• Reduces data sent to the database server
• Improves CPU utilization on the database server
• Queries run up to 2x faster

Minimum requirements:

• Oracle Exadata System Software release 19.3.0
• Oracle Database 18c
• Oracle Database In-Memory option
