This figure shows the lifecycle of test master and snapshot databases.
A production database points to a Data Guard Replica. Step 1 converts the Data Guard
replica to a test master database. This step contains the following activities:
- Defer redo transport
- Optionally, convert the Data Guard replica to a snapshot standby
- Perform test master configuration tasks
- Close the database
- Optionally, open the database in read-only mode
Step 2 is create and use snapshots.
Step 3 is refresh test master database. This step contains the following
activities:
- Drop all of the snapshots
- In step 1, if the Data Guard replica was converted to a snapshot
standby, then convert it back to the original Data Guard configuration
- Refresh and resynchronize the Data Guard replica
- Start again at step 1
