Collecting Diagnostics and Analyzing Logs On-Demand

The tfactl command provides a common interface for accessing and using a range of Oracle Database support tools. It simplifies diagnostic analysis by providing a consistent command syntax, while hiding differences in the syntax and usage of the individual tools.

Use Oracle Trace File Analyzer (TFA) tools to analyze diagnostic data and troubleshoot problems. If additional assistance is required, use tfactl to collect diagnostic information that can be provided to Oracle Support.

When you perform an on-demand diagnostic collection, TFA:

  • Collects relevant log data for a time period that you specify.
  • Trims log files to include only the information needed for diagnosis.
  • Packages the collected diagnostic data on the node where you run the tfactl command.

On-demand collections allow you to collect diagnostic information when you identify a problem, without waiting for an automatic diagnostic collection to occur.
