Deploying Oracle Database Appliance X7-2S and X7-2M

Preparing to Deploy Oracle Database Appliance

This alternate text topic provides text that describes page one of the Oracle Database Appliance X7-2S and X7-2M booklet.

Step 1 Register with My Oracle Support

Step 1 is on page one of the booklet.

  • Verify that your shipment contains the correct power cables for your location.

  • Obtain your hardware Support Identifier (SI).

  • Add the hardware SI and new software licenses that you received with Oracle Database Appliance to your My Oracle Support profile. Each SI registration may take up to 24 hours.

Note:

You must have registered hardware and software SIs to obtain software or support from Oracle.

Step 2 Plan the Network Configuration

Step 2 is on page one of the booklet.

Collect the following network information from your network administrator:

  • Generic network information

    • Domain name (for example, example.com)

    • (Optional) DNS server addresses

    • (Optional) Network Time Protocol server addresses

    • (Optional)VLAN ID

    • (Optional) NTP server details

  • Select the network interface you want to use for your public network

    • Oracle Database Appliance provides GB/25GB SFP28 options

  • Public network details needed to connect to the system

    • Host name and IP address (for example, hrsys0 and 192.0.2.18)

    • Netmask for public network (for example, 255.255.252.0)

    • Gateway for public network (for example, 192.0.2.1)

  • (Optional) VLAN ID for public network (for example, 10)

Step 3 Plan for Oracle ILOM Configuration

Step 3 is on page two of the booklet.

Configure Oracle Integrated Lights Out Manager (Oracle ILOM) for managing Oracle Database Appliance independently of the operating system. Collect the following ILOM details from your network administrator:

  • Oracle ILOM Host Name and IP address (for example, hrsysilom1 and 10.0.0.3)

  • Netmask for the Oracle ILOM network (for example, 255.255.255.0)

  • Gateway for the Oracle ILOM network (for example, 10.0.0.1)

Step 4 Plan the Software and Database Configuration Properties

Step 4 is on page two of the booklet.

Identify the following configuration properties:

  • User and group information

  • Host Name and master password

  • Region (for example, America)

  • Time Zone (for example, America/Los_Angeles)

  • Data Storage Percentage (for example 80)

  • Database Name (for example, hrdb)

  • Database Version (for example, 12.2.0.1.0)

  • Database Edition (SE or EE)

  • Database Shape (for example, odb1)

  • Database Class (for example, OLTP)

  • Database Language (for example, English)

  • Database Character Set (for example, AL32UTF8)

  • Database National Character Set (for example: AL16UTF16)

  • Container Database (yes or no)

  • Disk group redundancy for systems with 5 or more NVMe disks (Normal or High)

  • Database Territory (for example, America)

  • Container Database (yes or no)

  • (Optional) PDB Name and Admin User. This is optional if you anser no to Container Database.

  • Storage Type (ACFS or ASM)

  • (Optional) Oracle Enterprise Manager Database Express (EM Express) Console for Oracle Database 12.2.0.1, 12.1.0.2 or the Database Control Console for Oracle Database 11.2.0.4.

Step 5 (Optional) Plan for Oracle Auto Service Request

Step 5 is on page three of the booklet.

A. Configure Oracle Auto Service Request (Oracle ASR), provide the following:

  • Oracle ASR user name

  • Oracle online account password

  • SNMP version (version 2 is recommended)

  • (Optional) Proxy server name to use for your deployment

  • (Optional) Proxy server port

  • (Optional) Proxy user name

  • (Optional) Proxy password

B. Configure External ASR Manager

  • ASR Manager IP, host name

  • ASR Manager port

  • our My Oracle Support account user name and password.

Step 6 Download the Software

Step 6 is on page three of the booklet.

Download the Oracle Database Appliance Server Patch, GI Clone, and RDBMS DB Clone software to a local computer on the network. Follow the instructions in the Oracle Database Appliance X7-2 Deployment and User's Guide.

Find the patch information in the Oracle Database Appliance Release Notes and follow the instructions in the Oracle Database Appliance X7-2 Deployment and User's Guide.

Deploying Oracle Database Appliance

This alternate text topic provides text that describes the deployment section of the of the Oracle Database Appliance X7-2S and X7-2M poster, or booklet.

Step 1: Rack, Cable, and Connect the Network and Power

Step 1 is on page 4 of the booklet.

  • Ensure that the system hardware is set up and mounted properly. See the Oracle Database Appliance Owner’s Guide for more information: http://www.oracle.com/goto/oda/docs and select the release

  • Important:

    Follow the instructions on Page 7 to cable Oracle Database Appliance

    The bullet points in the booklet are listed as numbered procedure steps in this alternate text description, for clarity. The connection procedure consists of the following steps.

    1. Connect power to the power supply unit (PSU)

    2. Plug in the network cable for the ILOM network management

Page 7 of the poster shows graphic illustrations of the appliances, and the ports where cables are connected. Page 8 has a table of the callout numbers and a description for each callout. In this alternate text description, the ports associated with the callouts and descriptions are listed here.

Ports listed and described by callout numbers:

  1. Power Cables

  2. ILOM net management interface port, which is labeled ILOM NET MGT on the hardware. This is a service processor 10/100/1000 Base-T network interface.

  3. ILOM Server management interface port, which is labeled ILOM SER MGT on the hardware. This is a service Processor RJ-45 serial port.

  4. 10 gigabit Ethernet network interface port, which is labeled 10 GbE in the callout diagrams. This is a port with an RJ-45 connector (btbond1).

  5. (Optional) 10/25 gigabit SFP28 ports, (btbond1)

Note: You can configure the system to use either the 10 GbE RJ-45 network ports or the 10/25 GbE SFP+ ports

Step 2: Start Up the System

Step 2 is on page 4 of the booklet. In this step, the booklet lists start up system steps using alphabetic labels (A, B). This alternate description uses numerals. Step A is 1, and step B is 2.

  1. Once the green light labeled SP OK LED on the hardware is steady on, you start up the system by pushing the power button. The SP OK LED is marked with the callout label number 1 in the graphic illustration in Step 2 in the booklet. The power button is marked with the callout label number 2 in the graphic illustration in Step 2 in the booklet.

  2. Wait for the green LED light that is labeled Power OK to turn steady on, which indicates that the system has completed its startup procedure and is ready for deployment. The Power OK LED can blink for several minutes before it remains steady on. Do not repeatedly push the power button. The Power OK LED is marked with the callout label number 3 in the graphic illustration in Step 2 in the booklet.

Step 3: Plumb the Network

Step 3 is on page 5 of the booklet. The ordered bullet points in the booklet are listed as numbered procedure steps in this alternate text description, for clarity.

  1. Use either the 10GBase-T or the 25GbE SFP28 network interface.

  2. Connect to the ILOM remote console, then log in to the system as root.

  3. Run the command configure-firstnet to configure the initial network for btbond1.

    Oracle Database Appliance X7-2S and X7-2M have two highly available networks.

    Use either the 10gBase-T network interface, or the 10GbE SFP+ network interface. The following text is an example of the screen output that you see when you enter the command:

    # configure-firstnet
    Select the Interface to configure the network on (btbond1) [btbond1]:btbond1
    Configure DHCP on btbond1 (yes/no) [no]:no

Step 4: Update the Repository with the GI and RDBMS Files

Step 4 is on page 5 of the booklet. For clarity, the sequence of steps that is shown in alphabetical lists are described in numbered sequential steps in this alternate text description.

  1. Download the Oracle Database Appliance GI patch and RDBMS Clone files to a local computer on the network.

  2. Unzip the files. If a patch file is split into more than one zip file, concatenate the zip files.

  3. Upload the files to the appliance, then unzip each patch.

  4. Update the repository. You must include the fully qualified directory.

    # odacli update-repository -f /u01/tmp/patch_file_name.zip

    If you have more than one bundle, you can use a comma-separated list. Spaces are not allowed between the filenames.

  5. Check the job status to confirm that the status of the job is Success.

    # odacli list-jobs

Step 5: Deploy the Oracle Database Appliance

Step 5 is on page 6 of the booklet. In the booklet, the steps are shown using alphabetic listing (A, B, C, and so on, instead of 1, 2, 3). This alternate text description uses numbers for clarity.

Perform the following steps to create Oracle Database Appliance:

  1. In your browser, type the following URL: https://ODA-host-ip-address:7093/mgmt/index.html

  2. Enter the following credentials:

    • User name: oda-admin

    • Password: password

    See the Oracle Database Appliance X7-2 Deployment and User’s Guide.

  3. Click Create Appliance on the Appliance page.

  4. Enter the configuration information details

  5. Review your configuration

  6. Click Submit to start the deployment.

Step 6: Monitor Deployment Progress

Step 6 is on page 6 of the booklet.

Monitor the progress on the Activity tab.
