Data Preserving Reprovisioning: Oracle ASR
Understand FAQs on Oracle ASR updates during the Data Preserving Reprovisioning process.
Does Data Preserving Reprovisioning restore Oracle ASR configuration?
Yes, the odacli restore-node -g
step in the Data Preserving
Reprovisioning process restores Oracle ASR configuration.
I did not have Oracle ASR configured in
Oracle Database Appliance release 19.20. Will running the odacli restore-node
-g
step configure Oracle ASR?
No, the odacli restore-node -g
step restores Oracle ASR only if it
was configured before running the odacli detach-node
command.
I forgot the password for Oracle ASR
user name. Can I skip Oracle ASR configuration during the odacli restore-node
-g
step?
Yes, specify the --skip-asr/-sa
option in the odacli
restore-node -g
command to skip the restoration of Oracle ASR configuration.
I gave a wrong password for Oracle ASR
user name when prompted by the odacli restore-node -g
step. What do I do
now?
Oracle ASR is not restored if a wrong password is provided when prompted in the
odacli restore-node -g
step. Hence, after the odacli restore-node
-g
job completes, you must configure Oracle ASR manually with the correct
password using the odacli configure-asr
command to avoid loss of service.
My Oracle Database Appliance assets are registered with an external Oracle ASR Manager. How should I upgrade my system?
Before upgrading your Oracle Database Appliance with assets registered with an
external Oracle ASR Manager, that is, an external Oracle ASR configuration type, you must
first upgrade your appliance where Oracle ASR Manager runs. After the upgrade, before you
run the odacli restore-node -g
step on the current appliance, ensure that
you run the odacli update-repository
with the Oracle ASR configuration zip
file generated when you run the odacli export-asrconfig
command on the
Oracle ASR manager appliance.
I have external assets registered with
Oracle ASR Manager. Are they registered when Oracle ASR configuration is restored in the
odacli restore-node -g
step?
No, external assets are not registered when Oracle ASR Manager is restored by
the odacli restore-node -g
step. For example, if Oracle ASR Manager is
running on oda1
and the assets of oda2
are registered with
Oracle ASR Manager on oda1
, the Data Preserving Reprovisioining process
does not register the assets of oda2
when restoring Oracle ASR
configuration on oda1
. To register these assets again, you must upgrade
oda2
as well using the Data Preserving Reprovisioning process after
oda1
is upgraded.
Can I change my Oracle ASR configuration to external after completing the Data Preserving Reprovisioning process?
Yes, Oracle ASR configuration type can be changed to external after completing
the Data Preserving Reprovisioning process. Delete the current restored Oracle ASR
configuration using the odacli delete-asr
command, and configure Oracle ASR
configuration as external using the odacli configure-asr
command.
