Cabling the Interconnect and Storage for Oracle Database Appliance X8-2-HA

This is the alternate text that describes page one of the Oracle Database Appliance X8-2-HA poster.

Network and Storage Shelf

Storage Expansion Shelf

The second illustration of the appliance is on the right side of the page. The illustration shows the appliance with Node 1 at the top of the image, Node 0 beneath Node 1, the Storage Shelf, and then the Storage Expansion Shelf at the bottom of the image. The image has 4 callouts (7, 8, 9, and 10). The callouts define how to connect the optional storage expansion shelf to Oracle Database Appliance X8-2-HA. Oracle Database Appliance X8-2-HA Setup

This is the alternate text that describes page two of the Oracle Database Appliance X8-2-HA poster.

Page two of the poster describes the setup for Oracle Database Appliance X8-2-HA.

Step 1 Connect the Power and Network Cables

Step 1 is on page two of the poster. This step includes a graphic illustration of the appliance with Node 1 at the top of the image, Node 0 beneath Node 1 and the Storage Shelf at the bottom of the image. The image has four callouts (1, 2, 3, and 4). In this alternate text description, the ports associated with the callouts and descriptions are listed here.

Callout numbers and description:

  • Callout 1: Six power connections for the power supply units (PSU)

  • Callout 2: Oracle Integrated Lights Out Manager (Oracle ILOM) network management port (one on each server node)

  • Callout 3: (Optional) USB port

  • Callout 4: Four network cards that may vary from Oracle Dual Port 25Gb Ethernet Adapter or Oracle Quad Port 10GBase-T Adapter depending on the option ordered

In this step, the poster lists steps using alphabetic labels (A, B, C, D). This alternate description uses numerals. Step A is 1, step B is 2, step C is 3, and step D is 4.

Important: Follow the instructions on Page 1 to cable the server nodes, storage systems and interconnect before proceeding. On both nodes, connect:

  1. Plug in AC power to the storage shelf and host node power supplies (1). For redundancy, ensure that each component has one of its two power supply connected to a separate AC power source. Callout 1 indicates the location of the power on Node 1, Node 0, and the Storage Shelf.

  2. Plug in the network cable for Oracle Integrated Lights Out Manager (Oracle ILOM) network management port. Callout 2 indicates the location of the Ethernet ports on Node 1 and Node 0.

  3. (Optional) On Node 0 only, connect peripheral to USB. Callout 3 indicates the location of the USB port on Node 0.

  4. Plug in network cables to the public network ports. (Port connections can vary depending on the option ordered). Callout 4 indicates the location of the public network ports on Node 0 and Node 1.

Step 2 Start Up the Systems

Step 2 is on page two of the poster. In this step, the poster lists start up systems steps using alphabetic labels (A, B, and C). This alternate description uses numerals. Step A is 1, Step B is 2, and step C is 3.

This step includes a graphic illustration of a portion of the appliance with three callouts (5, 6, and 7). In this alternate text description, the ports associated with the callouts and descriptions are listed here.

Callout numbers and description:

  • Callout 5: SP OK LED light.

  • Callout 6: Power button.

  • Callout 7: Power OK LED light.

Connect power to the power supply.

  1. Power on the storage shelf and optional storage expansion shelf using the ON/OFF switch on each power supply. The storage shelves must be fully powered on (their Power OK LED steady on) before attempting to power on the host nodes. This can take several minutes depending on the number of drives installed.

  2. On each node, after the green SP OK LED (5) is steady ON, push the power button (6).

  3. Wait for the green Power OK LED (7) to turn steady ON. The Power OK LED may blink for several minutes. Do not repeatedly push the power buttons. The Power OK LED is marked with the callout label number 7 in the graphic illustration in Step 2 in the poster.

Step 3 Deploy and Configure the Appliance

Step 3 is on page two of the poster.

This step contains links to the Oracle database Appliance documentation library so that you can deploy and configure your appliance. Refer to the Oracle Database Appliance Deployment and User’s Guide for information about configuring and deploying the appliance. Server Back Panel Components, Connectors, and Indicators

This is the alternate text that describes the back panel components, connectors, and indicators on page 2 of the poster for X8-2-HA.
