11 Compute Node Rack Location Reference

This appendix describes the appropriate rack locations for expansion Oracle Server X9-2 compute nodes, when you are adding those compute nodes to an Oracle Private Cloud Appliance shipped out of the factory with Controller Software version 2.4.4.

Starting with factory release 2.4.4, Oracle Private Cloud Appliance power configurations have been updated to accommodate the additional power needs of the Oracle Server X9-2. You must carefully follow these compute node upgrade guidelines to ensure your Oracle Private Cloud Appliance is adequately powered based on compute node configurations and the Power Distribution Units (PDUs) in your rack. Observe these additional guidelines:

  • Install servers by memory size, with the largest memory configurations lowest in the rack, and the smallest memory configurations highest.

  • If all server memory sizes within a rack are 512GB and/or 1TB, it must follow the limitations and rack locations for 1TB Max Configurations for all PDU types.

  • If any server memory size within a rack is 2TB memory size, it must follow the limitations and rack locations for 2TB Max Configurations for all PDU types.

  • Install servers with FC cards at the top of all installed compute nodes.

Note:

If you have upgraded Oracle Private Cloud Appliance 2.4.3, or earlier, rack to Software Controller release 2.4.4, and intend to install an Oracle Server X9-2 into this rack, consult your Oracle representative to ensure proper planning for power and data cabling.
