6 Upgrading from Earlier Software Versions
We recommend to run the latest available software on your Oracle Private Cloud Appliance. It improves protection against vulnerabilities and allows you to take advantage of all new features, bug fixes, and functional improvements. The Upgrader service itself is enhanced continuously to make the transition to the latest appliance software more reliable, and the workflow easier to run and monitor. As a result, step-by-step procedures and monitoring functions might be different depending on the software version currently running on the appliance, and the intended new target version. The detailed instructions in this Upgrade Guide are aimed at systems running the minimum recommended appliance software and moving up to the latest available version. For systems running an earlier version of the appliance software, this chapter provides the instructions to get to the minimum recommended version.
The correct upgrade path depends on the active appliance software version. The table provides guidance on the intermediate version hops required to get to the minimum recommended version.
