6 Next Steps

Once the initial configuration is complete, you can begin to customize the appliance for use. These are further administration tasks to consider before you enable user access to the cloud infrastructure services.

Task Description

Set up a bastion host

After initial configuration, you may choose to connect a bastion host to the appliance internal management network. Consider it a long-term equivalent of the temporary workstation connection used during appliance initialization.

See Optional Bastion Host Uplink.

Enable Oracle Auto Service Request

Oracle Auto Service Request (ASR) is a software feature for support purposes. It is integrated with My Oracle Support and helps resolve problems faster by automatically opening service requests when specific hardware failures occur. Using ASR is optional: the service must be registered and enabled for your appliance.

See Using Oracle Auto Service Request.

Integrate with Oracle Exadata

Private Cloud Appliance can be integrated with Oracle Exadata for a high-performance combination of compute capacity and database optimization. Up to 16 database nodes can be connected directly to the appliance.

See Optional Connection to Exadata and Creating and Managing Exadata Networks.

Provision the compute nodes

The appliance software detects the compute nodes that are installed in the rack and cabled to the switches. They must be provisioned by an administrator so they can host compute instances.

See Performing Compute Node Operations.

Create administrator accounts

During initial configuration the primary infrastructure administrator account is set up. To provide other administrators access to the Service Enclave, create additional accounts and determine each one's authorization level.

See Administrator Account Management.

Create tenancies

A tenancy is an environment where users manage cloud resources and configure virtualized workloads. From the Service Enclave, an infrastructure administrator must set up at least one tenancy.

See Tenancy Management.
