OCI-00845

The Automatic Memory Management (AMM) feature encountered a problem allocating memory.

Cause

AMM is defined in the initialization file using the MEMORY_TARGET parameter. While trying to enable AMM, the database encountered an error. Either the operating system does not support AMM or it is not configured correctly.

Action

Refer to Oracle Database documentation to verify if the operating system supports AMM. If not, remove AMM related parameters from the initialization file. On Linux, check if /dev/shm is mounted and whether it can accommodate the memory requirements defined by MEMORY_TARGET. The database alert log contains additional information about the use of /dev/shm on the Linux platform as well as more actionable steps.
