ORA-40504

Cause
An attempt at media recovery found that the data file already existed before the last CREATE CONTROLFILE statement was executed. The information needed for doing the media recovery was lost with the control file that existed when the data file was added to the database.
Action
Restore a more recent backup of the data file and retry the recovery.
