Tagging Task and Resource Specifications for Bills of Material

In UIM, you can generate bills of materials (BOMs) for engineering work orders and business interactions. To enable this functionality, you apply the following tags to Task specifications and resource specifications:

  • The billable tag applies to both Task specifications and resource specifications. When you apply this tag to a specification, entities based on it are included in BOMs created in UIM.

  • The billofmaterials tag applies only to Task specifications. When you apply this tag to a specification, Activity Summary pages for activities based on this specification include an Actions menu item that enables you to create a BOM directly.

Generating cost data for BOMs requires the use of custom tags. For example, you can create a custom tag named costreferenceid that includes an ID for the task or resource. Generating cost data also requires extending UIM to retrieve data from external systems or from custom tables in the UIM database. See “Working with Tags" and UIM Developer's Guide for more information.
