Description of the illustration ds_extend_ents.gif

This figure describes how a manual task is extended and how the new entity, called Extended Manual Task, inherits all of the data defined for the source entity, called Manual Task. The source entity includes a simple data element called dataItem1, and a structured data element called structure1. Structure1 includes a child data element called child1. The Extended Manual Task target entity inherits all of the data elements from the Manual Task source entity. These inherited data elements, however, are all read-only. You extend the source entity by adding additional data elements to the target entity. In the example in this figure, a simple data element called child2 and a structured data element called structure2 have both been added to the target entity. Additionally, structure2 includes a child element.
