Configuring Multitenancy

Learn about configuring environment and instance multitenancy in Oracle Communications Unified Assurance.

Configuring Environment Multitenancy

This section describes the general method for implementing multitenancy in a user environment.

Dependencies

Steps

  1. Plan the user groups and what data should be available to each user group. Consider the following items:

    1. Identify roles (functionality) in the Unified Assurance UI that the user group should have access to.

    2. Identify device groups if metric or topology information is going to be displayed for the user group.

    3. If the user group needs to see events:

      1. Identify event groups that apply to the user group.

      2. Identify event menus and tools that apply to the user group.

    4. If the user group needs dashboards:

      1. Identify any existing dashboards that the user groups will need, or new ones that you need to create.

      2. Identify dashboard menus and tools that apply to the user group.

    5. Identify internal or external web links or files that should be available to the user group.

  2. Create the relevant restrictive components for each user group:

    1. Create a device group to contain all the devices the user group should have access to for all displays.

To open the Device Groups interface, from the main navigation menu, select Configuration, then Device Catalog, and then Device Groups.

    2. Create an event filter group to select all the events the user group should have access to for all displays.

To open the Filter Groups interface, from the main navigation menu, select Configuration, then Events, and then Filter Groups.

    3. Create a dashboard group to include all the dashboards that should be available to the user group.

To open the Dashboard Groups interface, from the main navigation menu, select Configuration, then Dashboards, and then Dashboard Groups.

    4. Create event menus and tools if the user group needs context menus in event lists.

To open the event Menus interface, from the main navigation menu, select Configuration, then Events, and then Menus.

To open the event Tools interface, from the main navigation menu, select Configuration, then Events, and then Tools.

    5. Create diagram menus if the user group needs context menus on diagrams.

To open the diagram Menus interface, from the main navigation menu, select Configuration, then Diagrams, and then Menus.

    6. Create a link group if the user group needs access to information in links.

To open the Link Groups interface, from the main navigation menu, select Configuration, then Links, and then Link Groups.

  3. Create the user groups for the identified user community and assign restrictive properties for the restrictive components created previously.

To open the User Groups interface, from the main navigation menu, select Configuration, then AAA, and then User Groups.

  4. TTest the user group access by creating a new user or assigning an existing non-admin user to the user group and logging into the Unified Assurance UI and confirming what the user has access to.

To open the Users interface, from the main navigation menu, select Configuration, then AAA, and then Users.

Configuring Instance Multitenancy

This section covers implementing instance multitenancy by creating a virtual device within the device catalog.

Dependencies

Steps

  1. Define all the metric instances that should be available to a user group.

    1. Identify all the devices that should be represented by a virtual device.

    2. Identify all the metric instances on the devices that should be represented on the virtual device.

  2. Create a virtual device in the device catalog. Set State to Virtual. If the device should inherit characteristics from an existing discovered device, set the Parent Device field.

To open the Devices interface, from the main navigation menu, select Configuration, then Device Catalog, and then Devices.

  3. Create metric display instances to assign metric instances to the virtual device. Add a metric display instance for each metric instance that you want to associate with the virtual device.

To open the Display Instances interface, from the main navigation menu, select Configuration, then Metrics, and then Display Instances.

  4. After associating all metric display instance with the virtual device, validate the virtual device visibility. You can use the virtual device in the same way as any other device in the device catalog for establishing the remainder of the configuration for the multitenancy implementation.
