Importing Designs to a Non-Production Environment from a Configuration Package
You can use the Import Designs from Package option to import specific designs from a package into a non-production Development or Test environment. The designs remain in Draft status in the non-production environment.
- Adopt only the relevant business processes (BPs) or other design definitions from Oracle accelerator packages, Facilities and Asset Management (FAM) packages, or partner packages such as New Engineering Contract (NEC), even when the package contains other component types.
- Combine selected designs from multiple packages in one non-production environment and use clear, unique IDs and names where permitted.
- Review details that indicate whether each selected design is added, updated, or unchanged before you complete the import and before you commit to a regular import.
- Test or refine a design in Draft status before following the normal publish and deployment lifecycle.
- Update an existing non-published design when the imported design matches it. A Draft design retains its version, while a Complete design increments its version and returns to Draft status.
- Enter a new Design ID and Design Name to avoid conflicts and create a separate design instead of updating an existing design.
- Download an Impact Analysis Report that displays the Design ID and Design Name when the import succeeds and errors and warnings when it does not.
- Identify and correct potential issues because designs are not deployed automatically.
Limitations
- Component lists
- Add-on configuration packages
- Overwriting or updating published designs
- Importing designs when all selected designs have an After Import Status of No Change
Import Designs
- Go to the Company Workspace tab, and switch to Admin mode.
- In the left Navigator, select Configuration Package Management, and then select Configuration Packages.
- From the toolbar, select Import Package, and then select Import Designs from Package.
- Next to File Name, select the ellipsis icon, locate and select a valid ZIP file.
The system uploads the ZIP file and automatically completes the required Package Name field and optional Description.
- If applicable, update the Package Name and Description fields.
- Select Next.
At the Design Details step, the system displays the package components from the selected ZIP file.
The Design Details preview displays only the components available in the ZIP file. You can filter each column to search for specific data.
The After Import Status column displays the status of each component, such as a BP design:- Add: The component does not exist in the current environment and is added if the import is successful.
- Update: The component exists in the current environment and is modified if the import is successful.
- No Change: The component exists in both the current environment and the package, and no changes are applied to the component in the destination environment.
- To compare a component, such as a BP design in the new package, with the corresponding component in the destination environment, from the toolbar, select Compare With Previous Version.
- Select the checkbox for each design that you want to import.
- For any design that you want to import as a new design, if the design supports new IDs and names, enter a new ID and name in the corresponding New Design ID and New Design Name fields.
New design names must be unique and contain no more than 256 characters.
For attribute-form-only modules, the following guidelines apply:- When a module supports only one attribute-form-based design:
- For the Add status, you can specify a New Design Name to import the design with a different name. The New Design ID field remains disabled.
- For the Update and No Change statuses, both the New Design ID and New Design Name fields are disabled. In these cases, the existing design is retained, and only the content of the attribute form can be updated.
- When a module supports multiple designs:
- For the Add, Update, and No Change statuses, you can import the design as a new design by providing both a valid New Design ID and New Design Name.
- When you create a new design, both fields are required and must pass the applicable validation rules.
When the destination environment already contains the maximum permitted number of designs for a module, the new ID and name fields are disabled, and only an allowed update can occur.
- When a module supports only one attribute-form-based design:
- When you finish the Design Details step, select Next to go to the Preview step.
- In the Preview step, review the selected designs, new IDs and names, and expected status.
- When you finish the Preview step, select Next to go to the Import Designs step.
- In the Import Designs step, select or clear the option to download the Impact Analysis Report.
When you clear the option, you can download the Impact Analysis Report later from the gear menu (
) in the Configuration Package log.
- When you are ready to import the designs, select Import .
