Whenever a DMS application needs to perform switching in the field it does so by creating a switch plan in Web Switching. Depending on the mode of operation, these plans might require operators to authorize and execute field device changes (open/close, tap raise/lower, capbank on/off, and so on).

DMS modules that can create switch plans include: FLISR, Load Shedding and Optimization.
