NMS may be used with a screen reader by first enabling Java Access Bridge. (See the documentation at https://docs.oracle.com/javase/8/docs/technotes/guides/access/enable_and_test.html for more information.) Next, select Toggle Accessible Mode from the Preferences menu. This will make various change to NMS to make it more accessible to screen readers. It turns off locked table columns, and allows the Tab and Shift+Tab keyboard shortcuts to focus on labels that wouldn’t otherwise be read by the screen readers. Once Accessible mode is toggled on, it can be saved as part of user preferences.
