Overview
Web Switching Management allows you to create and implement switching sheets and safety documents. Switching Sheets allow you to track proposed switching actions, analyze the results, and implement the plan. Safety Documents provide an electronic representation of paper safety documents, which are used for switching operations to record the issuance and release of tags on devices.
Web Switching Management's full feature set is available through the Web Workspace environment for a Full Operations plus Web Switching user type (see Understanding User Types). Web Switching Request provides the Switching Request user type with a subset of the Web Switching Management tools related to creating and editing switching requests.
Operating Modes
Web Workspace supports two operating modes:
Real-Time Mode - Allows you to make real-time changes to the state of devices in the system. When you create an emergency switching sheet, the system automatically enables real-time mode. For planned sheets, you can switch to this mode when the sheet is ready to be worked.
Study Mode - Allows you to make changes without affecting real-time data. You can apply the actions to the steps, but the actions are not applied to the real-time data. This mode is valid for all types of sheets. Study mode is the only valid mode for template and outage correction switching sheets.
Device Associations with Nominal and Current Network Components
In switching plans and safety documents, as switching operations proceed, devices may become associated with feeders or substations other than the ones defined in the as-built model. These associations will be called out in fields defined as Current Feeder/Current Substation and there will be corresponding Nominal Feeder/Current Substation fields that will list the feeder or substation that the device is normally associated with.
In Switching Sheets, these fields will dynamically update when the following actions occur:
When a user loads the sheet and it is in the Approved, Scheduled, Issued, In Progress, In Progress (Instructed) states.
When the sheet is loaded and a change is made to the current network that results in any device on the Request tab or the Steps list getting a new current feeder or substation value. The sheet has to be loaded within a client environment for this to work. Again, this is only when the sheet is in the previously mentioned states.
When a user has permissions to manually save the switching sheet. If the Save button is enabled, then the Current Feeder and Current Substation values will be updated when the sheet is saved.
Note: The sheet states and actions are described later in this guide.
In Web Safety documents, these fields will dynamically update when the following actions occur:
When a user loads the parent sheet and the safety document is in the New, Issued, Released, or Unissued state.
When the parent sheet is loaded and a change is made to the current network that results in any device on the safety document getting a new current feeder or substation value. The sheet has to be loaded within a client environment for this to work. Again, this is only when the safety document is in the previously mentioned states.
When a user has permissions to manually save the safety document. If the Save button is enabled, then the Current Feeder and Current Substation values will be updated when the sheet is saved.
Note: The safety document states and actions are described later in this guide.
