Overview
Oracle Utilities Network Management System - Service Alert Administration is an application that sends notifications to utility personnel via e-mail or text/SMS message. These notifications are triggered by "events" in Oracle Utilities Network Management System Web Trouble. For example, a notification could be used to alert a marketing staff member that an unplanned outage affects a critical customer. This would enable the marketing person to contact the customer to provide up to date information about the status of the outage. Similarly, an operations staff member could be notified about the outage while away from the office.
Note that Service Alerts for planned events use the Web Switching Management's Impacted Customers list from the corresponding switching sheet to determine which customers would be affected by a planned outage. The Impacted Customers list has to be generated for a switching sheet in order for Service Alert notifications to work. See Using the Impacted Customers Tab for details on the Impacted Customer list.
As a notification engine, Service Alert provides for configurable delivery options through use of an administration tool, and dynamic message format control facilitated by XSL transformation of an XML-based message payload. This gives the administrator the ultimate power and flexibility in determining the routing and content of all notifications.
