Switching Management SCADA Integration
If you have a two-way SCADA system, you can operate devices as a step when completing a switching plan. Just like a typical switching plan, you can open or close devices by selecting the switching step and clicking the Complete button. (See Issuing a Switching Sheet.) With a two-way SCADA system, however, the actual devices will be remotely operated. The Oracle Utilities Network Management System SCADA ICCP Block 1, 2, and 5 Adapter controls are limited to switch status.
For two-way SCADA, any instructed SCADA action will produce the SCADA Control Request dialog box asking if you would like to submit the request to SCADA or not. Clicking Yes will submit the request to SCADA while selecting No will not submit the request. Both options will cause a switching step to be placed into the SCADA Pending state. This is true whether the instruct action is initiated from the Control Tool or from Web Switching. The device will also receive an Instruct condition. NMS will listen for SCADA telemetry and mark the action (step) as Completed once the action has been reported as being completed by SCADA. If SCADA does not report back a successful completion of the action, then the step will remain in the SCADA Pending state.
At any time, you may also choose to manually operate the SCADA device locally without sending the action to SCADA. This is accomplished by selecting the non-instructed version of the action from the Control Tool or by clicking the Complete button for a step selected in Web Switching. When these non-instructed actions are initiated, a Manual Entry Request dialog box will ask you to select the Manual, Manual and Inhibit, or Cancel button options. Both the Manual and Manual and Inhibit options result in the recording or setting of a switching sheet step to the Completed state. The device is also updated in the viewer.
If a SCADA action related step is in the SCADA Pending state, you can force the completion of the action prior to receiving any updates from SCADA by completing the instructed action from the Control Tool or from Web Switching. In this case, you will again get the Manual Entry Request dialog box with options for Manual, Manual and Inhibit, or Cancel. Selecting either of the Manual options will force the step to the Completed state and will update the device within NMS. This does not send a cancel request or any other type of message to SCADA. The Instruct condition will also be removed from the device.
If any errors occur, Oracle Utilities Network Management System SCADA Extensions generates an alarm displayed in the Alarms list (see Understanding the Alarms List).
