Launching Modules and Logging In
Launching an Application
Depending on your system installation, Oracle Utilities Network Management System modules are typically accessed by an URL (provided by your Oracle Utilities Network Management System implementation team) or through shortcuts installed on your desktop or in your application menu (such as the Microsoft Windows Start menu or Linux Applications menu).
The following modules are launched individually and are accessible to users having needed permissions based on User Type (see Understanding User Types for information):
• Configuration Assistant: The Java‑based Configuration Assistant module provides a graphical view of the Oracle Utilities Network Management System configuration options and allows Administration users to add, edit, and store configuration changes. See Configuration Assistant for details.
• Model Management: The Java‑based Model Management module is a tool for managing changes to your system model. It is available to users with Model Validation permissions. See Model Management for details.
• Service Alerts: The Java‑based Service Alert Administration module is an application that sends notifications to utility personnel via e-mail or text/SMS message. It may be accessed by Administration user types. See Service Alert Administration for details.
• Storm Management: The Java‑based Storm Management module enables you to manipulate the event and crew information that the system will use to make its calculations. It provides access for Full Operations, View Only, and Administration user types. See Storm Management for details.
• Web Call Entry: The Java‑based Web Call Entry module enables you to enter and access customer call and event information. It provides access for the Web Call Entry user type. See Web Call Entry for details.
• Web Callbacks: The Java‑based Web Callbacks module is used to manage callback requests for customers who called in to report an outage. It provides access for the Full Operations user type. See Web Callbacks for details.
• Web Workspace: The Java‑based Web Workspace module provides the tool sets and views that are the foundation of the Oracle Utilities Network Management System user environment. The common features and platform provided by the Web Workspace provide a cohesive user experience for other Oracle Utilities Network Management System modules, such as Web Trouble Management or Web Switching Management. Depending on the NMS modules that are licensed, it provides access to the Full Operations plus Switching, Full Operations, Trouble Maintenance, Crew Operations, Switching Request, View Only, Administration, and Trainer user types. • Flex Operations: Flex Operations is a browser‑based platform for Oracle Utilities Network Management System tools. Many of the tools are analogs to those found in the Web Workspace and add‑on modules. See Flex Operations for details.
• Flex Edge DERMS: Provides an integrated Edge DERMS set of tools in a Flex browser‑based environment. This is only available when Edge DERMS is fully configured. See Edge DERMS for details.
Use the installed shortcuts, if applicable, or open the URL in a browser to launch the module. For the Java‑based applications, the Oracle Utilities Network Management System will begin downloading the Java components of the module to your computer. The Login window will open.
Understanding User Types
User type determines how the environment will be displayed when you log in. Web Workspace, Flex Operations, and Edge DERMS have unique user types.
Web Workspace
• Administration: provides the full complement of tools with additional tools and functions to change operational parameters.
• Crew Operations: provides a limited version of Web Workspace with only the tools necessary for crew administration functions.
• Full Operations: provides operational access to all Web Workspace tools.
• Full Operations plus Switching: provides operational access to all Web Workspace tools plus the Web Switching Management tools.
• Full Operations plus Switching and SCADA Control: provides operational access to all Web Workspace tools plus Web Switching Management and SCADA Control tools.
• SCADA Maintenance: provides a limited version of the Web Workspace with tools to work with SCADA Front End Processors (FEPs) and Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs).
• SCADA Commissioning: provides a limited version of the Web Workspace with tools for configuring and testing new SCADA IEDs.
• SCADA Maintenance plus Commissioning: provides a limited version of the Web Workspace with the SCADA maintenance and commissioning tools.
• Switching Request: provides access to the Web Switching Request environment with only the tools necessary to create switching requests.
• Trainer: provides access to the Web Workspace environment with all licensed modules and extra tools needed by a trainer to conduct training.
• Trouble Maintenance: provides a limited workspace with tools necessary for outage management functions.
• View Only: provides read-only access to the operational environment.
• Flex Edge DERMS: Provides an integrated Edge DERMS environment. This is only available when Edge DERMS is fully configured.
Flex Operations
• Flex Crew Operations: provides only crew administration functions in the Flex Operations client.
• Flex Full Operations: provides access to all Flex Operations tools except for Switching.
• Flex Full Operations plus Switching: provides operational access to all Flex Operations client tools plus the Flex Switching features.
• Flex Switching Request: provides access to the Flex Ops client’s Switching Request features.
• Flex View Only: provides read-only access to the Flex client environment.
• Flex Call Taker: provides access to the Flex Call Entry tool.
Edge DERMS
• DERMS User: Access to the Edge DERMS Events tool only. Can create and schedule DERMS events. Cannot approve DERMS events.
• DERMS Supervisor: Access to the Edge DERMS Events and DERMS Strategies tools. Can create DERMS strategies. Can create, approve, and schedule DERMS events.
• DERMS Administrator: Access to the Edge DERMS Events, DERMS Strategies, DERMS Configuration tools. Can create DERMS strategies. Can create, approve, and schedule DERMS events. Can configure DERMS users, parameters, and other options.

Logging In
1. To log in, enter the following information in the Login window:
User ID: enter the user name provided to you by your system administrator.
Password: enter the password provided to you by your system administrator.
Validate: click the Validate button to verify your login credentials.
Note: If your user name and password are not entered correctly, the system will display a Login Error message.
Once you have entered your user name and password, the Validate button will become activated.
2. Click Validate (or press Enter while in the password field) to validate your credentials.
3. Select User Type from the drop-down list to determine what tools and functions will be available to you (some applications only allow one user type). See Understanding User Types for more information.
4. If you are logging in to Web Workspace, you have the option to select a Workspace Layout. See Managing Your Workspace Layout for details.
5. Once the login criteria have been entered, click the Login button to complete the login process and open the module.
Note: If two-factor authentication is enabled, the Two Factor Authentication dialog box will open. To request an authentication code, select a delivery method from the drop-down list, and then click Request Code. Once you receive the code, enter it in the Code field, and click OK.
6. The Quit button closes the Login window and exits the Oracle Utilities Network Management System.
