Service Class
Service class is a broad categorization of activity types, allowing an activity type to belong to more than one service class. Each activity type must belong to at least one service class.
Examples of service classes include a maintenance service class for all activities associated with preventive maintenance services, an operational service class for activities associated with operations, a renewal service class for all activities associated with renewal services, and municipal service class for all activities associated with municipal services.
Some of the main usages of service classes are as follows:
• Crews may not be allowed to perform certain classes of work on specific shifts. Activities of the types included in these service classes would not be assigned by the scheduler to these shifts.
• Supervisors would be able to monitor work of a certain service class.
The scheduler uses service class when scheduling work to shifts based on their defined resource requirements. This is matched up with the service class indicated on the activity to help determine which crew shift can work the activity.
Renewal Work
The service class includes a flag to indicate whether or not the work type is work that is completed to restore or replace an asset towards its original size, condition, or capacity. The system separately calculates costs for renewal work.
Review your activity types and group them to various service classes to meet your business requirements.
