Configuring the KDS Status Bar

The KDS status bar is the area of a KDS Display that shows various elements that inform the user of the state of that kitchen station.

When using multiple KDS panels, the status bar reflects the panel currently in focus, as shown in the following figure.

This figure shows the KDS Display with the statu bar at the bottom of the display. The blue status bar spans the KDS Display horizontally.

Multiple KDSstatus bars may be configured and linked to different KDS Displays as each station has different needs. For example, expo may want to view the total number of orders in the queue. A prep station whose display is mounted up high may want the height of the status bar and the font size to be larger for easy viewing.

The following table identifies what is available in the default status bar, as well as other optional elements.

Average Prep Time

The average prep time for orders in the last 15 minutes for this display.

Connectivity Status

A symbol that reflects whether the KDS Display is connected to the KDS Controller.

This symbol This figure shows the Connected icon, which is a green check mark. signifies that the display is connected to the KDS Controller, while this symbol This figure shows the disconnected icon, which is a red X. indicates the display is disconnected from the KDS Controller.

The location’s current time.

Left Suborder Counter

The number of suborders to the left of the currently displayed suborders. Scroll left to see the suborders.

Right Suborder Counter

The number of suborders to the right of the currently displayed suborders. Scroll right to see the suborders.

Total Suborder Counter

The total number of suborders for this KDS Display. It includes any suborders not currently visible.

  1. Select the Enterprise, click Setup, and then click KDS Status Bars.
  2. Insert a KDS status bar, select the Object Number and Record Name, and then click OK.
  3. Double-click the record, or switch to form view to configure the new status bar.
  4. Select the Status Bar Height.

    The default is 24 pixels. If the height is too small or large, the status bar may be unusable.

  5. Select the Element Vertical Alignment.

    This indicates how the elements align vertically within the status bar.

  6. To configure the status bar with Simphony default elements, click Create Default.
  7. To configure the status bar with specific elements:
    1. Click the Add button to create a new element.
    2. Select the Content for the new element.
    3. (Optional) Enter a Legend, which provides more description for the element title.
    4. Adjust the Font Size, Weight, Width, and Horizontal Alignment as needed.
  8. Add elements as needed. Use the Preview link to see an approximation of how your status bar may appear. (It may not be an exact representation.)
  9. Use the Auto Expand option for one element to take up any remaining space on the status bar.
  10. Click Save.
