Menu Item Masters

A menu item master defines the “thing” which is being sold. The menu item master is unique across the enterprise, and often is mapped to an inventory system (for example, medium soda vs. large soda). The menu item master object number is also unique across the enterprise.

In Simphony, you can define menu item masters at the Enterprise, zone, or location hierarchy levels.

A menu item master record contains the following data:

Field Description

Name (one column per language configured within the system)

Enter the name to identify the menu item on reports.

Major Group

Select the major group in which this menu item should be included.

Family Group

Select the family group in which this menu item should be included.

Master Group

Select the menu item master group if this item participates in menu item switching.

Report Group

Enter a report group number for this menu item. Menu item reports sort and subtotal by Report Group. 0 = no print.

External Reference 1

Enter an external reference if needed to map this item to records in third party systems.

External Reference 2

Enter an external reference if needed to map this item to records in third party systems.

Option Description

2 - Do not allow edit by workstation function Edit Menu Item

Select to prevent the menu item from appearing or being edited through the edit menu item function key. This prevents configuration changes to all definitions of the item. This option does not affect setting the menu item’s availability.

3 - Non Revenue

Select to cause this menu item to not post to sales totals. This is often used for gift cards where the sale as the gift card is not recognized as revenue.

4 - Core

Select to mark this as a core menu item, preventing it from being disabled or made inactive through effectivity groups. When set, the effectivity group table in the MI Master – Effectivity tab is disabled. Any previously assigned effectivity groups are disregarded by POS operations.

5 - Disabled

Select to deactivate the menu item, making it unavailable for sale.
