Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP)
If DHCP is used within a property:
-
It is essential to reserve IP addresses to ensure that specific devices always receive the same IP address.
-
It is essential not to assign NTP servers to workstations, as the Client Application Loader (CAL) has a built-in time synchronization feature. Providing both can cause conflicts.
When using DHCP, the lease duration should be set long enough to prevent lease renewals from occurring during business hours. Although DNS resolution can be implemented, the associated delay and overhead may cause intermittent issues. If no other options are available, DNS should be used in combination with fixed IP reservations.
