Configuring an Android Workstation

Complete the following device configuration steps:

  1. Sign in to the EMC and select the property, click Setup, and then click Workstations.
  2. Insert a new workstation record.
  3. Double-click the record to open it in form view.

    Enter information in the workstation configuration fields, then set the Type as 6 - Tablet Client or 1 - Mobile.

    The Oracle Restaurants Compatibility Matrix contains more information about the supported services and functionality for devices running specific versions of the Android mobile operating system.

  4. Enter the Internet Protocol (IP) address or host name of the android workstation in the Address/Host Name field.
  5. Click the Options tab, and then click the Display/Security subtab.
  6. Select 39 - Floating Tablet.
  7. (Optional) If you are using a printer with the Android device, set the printer from the Printers module.

  8. Click the Revenue Centers tab, and select the revenue centers for the workstation. You must select at least one revenue center.
  9. (Optional) If you don’t want to enforce the PIN/Pattern lock on android devices:
    1. Select the Enterprise level, and then click Control Parameters.
    2. Click the Options tab.
    3. Check Option 80 – Do not require PIN/Pattern lock on Android clients to run the Simphony client.
    4. Click Save.
On the Android device, perform the following tasks before installing the Simphony software:
  • Configure the network settings to use a static Internet Protocol (IP) address.
  • (Optional) Enable the PIN/Pattern lock on the device. See the manufacturer instructions for details.
  • Turn off Trusted Sources on the device. See the manufacturer instructions for details.
