Add a caption to a control

For a nested item, the Item Question becomes a caption in the Layout tab. For other items, you can add a caption if you want to change the Item Question that appears for a particular item instance. For example, you might want to use Gender as the question on one form, but Gender (male or female) for the same item on another form.

  1. At the bottom of the Project Explorer, click the Forms and Transactions (Forms and Transactions button) button, and expand the InForm folder and the Forms folder, if necessary.
  2. Select a form or item, and select the Layout tab.
  3. Right-click a control, and select Edit Caption.
  4. Type the caption. You can type up to 1000 characters.
  5. Click one of these buttons:
    • Apply/Next—Apply the caption, and advance to the next control, so that you can edit its caption. The control for which you are editing a caption is outlined with a dotted black line on the Layout tab.
    • Apply—Apply the caption.
  6. Click Close.

    Tip:

For a form with multiple layouts, if you add or edit a section note or caption for a locale, the text is visible in all of the layouts.
