Overview

The MedicationDispense resource indicates that a medication product is to be or has been dispensed for a named person or patient. This information includes a description of the medication product (supply) provided and the instructions for administering the medication. The medication dispense is the result of a pharmacy system responding to a medication order.

The following fields are returned if valued:

MedicationDispense.medication may be a reference to a contained medication when the medication cannot be represented by a CodeableConcept because it contains a unique combination of ingredients. Medications in the system exist in the context of a medication dispense and cannot be referenced independently.
