Configuring Credit Card Readers (Magnetic Stripe)

Configure the Magnetic Stripe Credit Card Reader device types available at your property.

A credit card reader is a device that decodes the credit card information contained on the magnetic strip of a credit or debit card.

Adding Magnetic Credit Card Reader Devices

  1. From the Administration menu, select Interfaces, click Interface Devices, and then select Credit Card Reader Devices.

  2. Click New and enter the following details:

    1. Reader Number. Enter a unique reader number for the type of reader.

    2. Description. Enter a description/name of the reader

    3. Separator

      1. Expiry:Enter the character used as the expiration start date character. Typically, this will be "=".

      2. End of Track: Enter the character used as the end-of-track separator. Typically, this will be "?".

      3. Name: Enter the character used as the name separator. Typically, this will be "^".

      4. Track 2: Enter the character used as the track two separator. Typically, this will be ";".

    4. Encrypted Device

      1. Secure. Reader: Available when the CC Vault OPERA Control is active; select the check box if communication with the credit card reader device is encrypted. Enter the appropriate details in the fields below to enable parsing the needed data from the encrypted string provided from the device. (The credit card merchant or device vendor will need to provide the details to be entered).

      2. Software ID: Enter the version number of the reader device software, as assigned by the device manufacturer (not mandatory except for HID Format Type). This is used as the default value to all workstations that have this Reader No. attached to it.

      3. Encryption Format Codes: Enter the code assigned by the Credit Card Provider for the encrypted data format for the swiped information.

      4. Format Type: Choose the type of format used for the encrypted device. IDTECH is specific to the IDTech M130 device; POSITION indicates the needed encrypted data can be found in a specific position in the entire string; FIELDID indicates the needed encrypted data can be found in a specific field in the entire string; HID is specific to the Magtek DynaPro device.

      5. Separator

        • Start Data: Enter the start delimiter defining the fields of encrypted data.

        • End Data: Enter the end delimiter defining the fields of encrypted data.

      6. Position
        • KSN Field: Enter the ordinal number of the Field ID or the Position that holds the KSN, Encryption Key Serial Number, and Transaction Counter data.

        • ET1 Field: Enter the ordinal number of the Field ID or the Position that holds the ET1 and Encrypted Track 1 data.

        • ETS2 Field: Enter the ordinal number of the Field ID or the Position that holds the ET2 and Encrypted Track 2 data.

  3. Click Save.

Editing Magnetic Credit Card Reader Devices

  1. From the Administration menu, select Interfaces, click Interface Devices, and then select Credit Card Reader Devices.

  2. Enter search criteria and click Search.

  3. Select the device, then click the vertical ellipsis and select Edit.

  4. Update configuration.

  5. Click Save.

Deleting Magnetic Credit Card Reader Devices

  1. From the Administration menu, select Interfaces, click Interface Devices, and then select Credit Card Reader Devices.

  2. Enter search criteria and click Search.

  3. Select the device, then click the vertical ellipsis and select Delete.

  4. Click Delete to confirm.
