Configuring Room Types

A room type code is used to identify each category of room available at your property. For example, you might configure room types that reflect the primary characteristic of the room -- Deluxe, Superior, Standard in combination with thee bedding – Twin, King, Double/Double.

Rate code pricing schedules are setup for each room type and availability is calculated and displayed by room type. OPERA Cloud also tracks revenue statistics by room type.

There are three varieties of room types in OPERA Cloud.

  • Physical - Inventory room types tracked in availability; rooms configured for these room types count towards the Oracle Hospitality OPERA Cloud Service, Property Management Foundation subscription.

  • Component - virtual room types tracked in availability as an inventory room type. Component suites do not count towards the Oracle Hospitality OPERA Cloud Service, Property Management Foundation subscription. (Available when the Component Suites  OPERA Control is active).

  • Pseudo - Non-inventory room types not tracked in availability; rooms configured for these room types do not count towards the OPERA Cloud subscription. The "PM" pseudo room type is seeded on provisioning of OPERA Cloud, and other pseudo room types, such as "HOUSE', 'PERMNT' or 'INTRFACE' , can be configured to suit your needs.

Adding Room Types

      Note:

Maximum Occupancy can be used alone or in combination with Maximum Adults and/or Maximum Children. These values are referenced throughout OPERA Cloud, for example, when a room is assigned to a reservation, when rates are set up based on occupancy, and when a room move is performed. A message prompts you when the maximum number of persons exceed for a specific room. When used alone, Maximum Occupancy sets the limit on the number of persons (adults and children) that may occupy rooms of this room type. For example, if Maximum Occupancy is 3 and Maximum Adults and Maximum Children are not defined (null values), the room could be occupied by any mix of adults and children not to exceed 3 persons: by 3 adults, or by 2 adults and 1 child, or by 1 adult and 2 children, or by 3 children, etc. When Maximum Occupancy is used with Maximum Adults and/or Maximum Children, the number of persons occupying the room may not exceed Maximum Occupancy, nor may the individual limits on the number of adults (Maximum Adults) and/or the number of children (Maximum Children) be exceeded. This means that the Maximum Adults value and the Maximum Children values cannot be individually greater than the Maximum Occupancy value.
    27. Room Features: Select the default room features for the room type. Reservation agents can search for room type availability by the features allocated to a room type. Selected features are copied to all rooms created for this room type and may be changed on individual rooms when the room is configured. For more information, see Configuring Room Features.
