About External Content Dashboard Tile

Use the External Content dashboard tile to fetch data from an external system for display on the dashboard. Data can be alpha-numeric, with values provided in the desired display format (i.e. currency symbols, decimal separators etc.) in the API response. In order to use the External Content tile, configure the external (Outbound) solution for Outbound Type = Dashboard. For more information, see Configuring Outbound Systems.

Access to view the tile is controlled by the assignment of a Category to the tile properties, requiring users to have theView External Content Tile task and the corresponding View <Category> External Content Tile task assigned to their role. For more information, see OPERA Cloud Tasks — General.

The tile offers a variety of sizes and layouts to suit your requirements.

  • 1x1

  • 2x1

  • 2x2 Standard, Table, Mixed

  • 3x1

  • 3x2 Standard, Table, Mixed

The Standard layout displays two datapoints in each section.

The Table  layout displays tableData in columns and rows.

The Mixed layout displays datapoints in two or three sections; followed by a Table, with tableData  displayed in columns and rows.

Only 2x2 and 3x2 allow Table or Mixed layouts, all the other tile sizes will only display datapoints. For a tile size of 3x2, you can display up to 12 datapoints if no tableData  is present (standard layout), or up to 6 datapoints if tableData is present (mixed layout).

The URL url symbol symbol  is displayed on the tile when the externalUrl included in the API response. When clicked, the URL is launched in a new browser tab.
