Best Practices and Prerequisites For Data Models

The following are recommended best practices for you to follow prior to creating a data model.

• Create a folder specifically for BI Publisher reports. As the number of reports needed may increase over time, having a specific folder for all BI Publisher related data models, analysis templates, and reports will ultimately save time and avoid confusion. (Best Practice Recommendation)

• Create an Analysis folder within the BI Publisher Folder to store all analysis/report templates. (Best Practice Recommendation)

• Build a new analysis or select an existing analysis to build the data model for BI Publisher. In this example, the existing Statistics Matrix analysis has been selected. (Prerequisite)

• ▪ Create a copy of the selected analysis and paste the copy in the Analysis folder. Although it is not a required step, it is recommended to use a copied analysis for BI Publisher for 2 reasons:

  1. i. Analysis templates for BI Publisher should not have prompts attached if bursting is applied.

  2. ii. Should the original analysis be modified, it will not affect the BI Publisher. (Best Practice Recommendation)
