Creating a connection to the database

Connections are created within repositories. Although you can create multiple connections, only one connection can be active at a time.

Note:

If a connection is already active, select File > Disconnect before beginning this procedure.
  1. Select Start > Apps > Dictionary Loader.
The Dictionary Loader dialog box appears.
  2. In the Dictionary Loader tool, select File > New > Connection.
The Connection Information dialog box appears.
  3. Enter the following information:
    • Connection Name—Unique name for the connection.
    • Server—TNS name for the database.
    • User Name—Name of the coding dictionary database user that was created when the repository was set up.

This is the name you entered in the Schema Owner field in the New Repository dialog box. For more information, see Creating a dictionary repository.

    Note:

For more information about the Oracle fields, see Create the database and tablespaces. For instructions on installing the Central Coding software, see Installing the Central Coding software.
  4. Click Save.

The connection is created. It appears in the Data Connections tree view in the left pane of the Dictionary Loader tool dialog box.

    Note:

If the connection does not appear in the tree, close the Dictionary Loader tool and open it again.
