Create the coding target fields

Create the questions used in Clinical One Cloud Service to store dictionary values returned by Oracle Central Coding for coded verbatim terms.

If your form contains multiple verbatim term fields, create a separate set of coding targets for each verbatim term field. Oracle Central Coding returns the corresponding dictionary values to the appropriate coding targets after each verbatim term is coded.

Advanced Study Versioning (ASV) considerations

Advanced Study Versioning (ASV) does not support the addition of new coding target fields for existing subjects.

Using ASV to add new coding targets results in the targets appearing on forms for all subjects. For subjects whose visits were initiated before the coding targets were added, the new targets remain blank, even if a verbatim term is later coded or recoded.

This occurs because the association between the coding targets and their corresponding dictionary values are established during form design and locked for a subject when the first visit is initiated. For more information, see About Advanced Study Versioning (ASV).

To create coding target fields:

  1. Open the form, select Add, and then choose the Text option.
  2. Enter the question title, for example, System Organ Class Code.
  3. On the Details side panel.
    • Deselect any option with a checkmark under Required for.
    • Enable the Hidden setting, and then use the Data Classification drop-down to define who can view the question and its data. For more information, see Define data classifications for a hidden question.
    • Enable the Read Only setting so users who can view the data, based on data classification, cannot edit it.

      Note:

Coding targets should never be editable. Study design and Oracle Central Coding configuration determine the data that populates the coding targets.
    • Set the Character Limit to 2000.
  4. Expand the Advanced sidebar, select Add Property, and then choose the Coding Question option.
    • For Dictionary and Tag for Central Coding, use the values defined for the verbatim term.
    • For Coding Item Type, select the option that matches the question title. For example, if you entered System Organ Class for the title, also select it from the drop-down.

For more information about these settings, see Details about the Coding Question settings on the Advanced sidebar.

  5. Select Save, then Add to create additional coding targets.
