Define breakdown by cutpoints

If you are defining breakdown details for a numeric variable, you must define cutpoints. To define cutpoints, you specify ranges of numbers by indicating their boundaries. This option uses the values available at the time the report is run, not at the time you define the report.

With the numeric variable highlighted on the Edit Report Columns page, you can click View Column Statistics to view a histogram of variable values.

  1. In the left navigation pane, hover on the Data Analysis icon ( Data Analysis icon ), then click Report Definitions.
  2. On the Report Definitions page, accept the case series shown or click Browse to the right of Case Series to display the Select Case Series page and select a case series.
  3. Click a Report Definition's Row Action menu (Row Action menu icon), then click Edit.
  4. On the Edit Report Columns page, next to Breakdown Details, click Select.
  5. In the first value field (after VALUE <=), enter the maximum value for the first category.
  6. Enter a label for the value.
  7. In the next row, in the Value field, enter the maximum value for the second category. (The cutpoint values must be in ascending order.)
  8. Enter a label.
  9. Continue defining categories until you are ready to define the last category.
  10. For the last category, enter only a label. Do not enter a value. This is the label for all values greater than the previous cutpoint.
  11. To include a column or row to represent null values for the variable, check Include a category for NULL values.
  12. To include a column or row to represent all values for the variable (including null values if Include a category for NULL values is checked), check Include a category for ALL selected values. For reports that display percentages, the report must include a row or column for All.
  13. When you are satisfied with the cutpoints, click Save.

The Edit Report Columns page shows the selected values. Click Save to save your report definition so far.
