Exclude synthetic values

When estimating shrinkage parameters for EBGM scores generated by a data mining run, MGPS does not consider custom terms. If source data includes other synthetic values, such as standardized MedDRA queries, you must exclude those values for the appropriate data configuration variable. Once synthetic values have been excluded, MGPS does not consider them when estimating shrinkage parameters for EBGM scores.

Note:

AERS data releases provided to you by Oracle are already configured to exclude SMQs as synthetic values.
  1. In Microsoft Notepad, or another text editor, create a file containing the synthetic values.
    • The file must have only one column of up to 200 characters.
    • The first row in the file must be the header, Value.
  2. Make sure that there are no extra carriage returns or spaces in the file.
  3. Save the file with the extension, .csv.
  4. In the left navigation pane, click the Settings icon (Settings icon).
  5. In the Configure System section, click Manage Configurations.
  6. Click the Row Action menu (Row Action menu icon) for the data configuration, then click Edit.
  7. Click the Row Action menu (Row Action menu icon) for a configuration variable, and then click Edit.
  8. In the Data Transformation section, click Synthetic values.
  9. Click Upload Table.
  10. Click Browse.
  11. Select the file of synthetic values and click Open, and then click Upload.
  12. To make sure the values are correct, in the Data Transformation section, select Synthetic values and click View Current Values.
  13. Click Close, and then click Save.
  14. Validate the data configuration.

Note:

When you have excluded synthetic values, users creating a data mining run do not need to take any additional steps to exclude them.
